Synopsis:
In 2004 in Qamichli, Syria, Mesto, a young man of 17, dreams of joining his town's football club. But he was turned down because he had no papers as a Kurd. During the match between Qamichli and the neighbouring Syrian town, the club coach let him play for a few minutes. Mesto scored an unexpected goal, but his joy was marred by a riot that broke out in the stands between the fans, killing several people. The event quickly escalated into a revolt demanding more rights for the Kurds. In spite of himself, Mesto was to become a symbol of the rebels' struggle against the Syrian regime.

"The Dream Betrayed Me," produced by Camille Laemlé, within the company Les Film d’Ici in co-production with the Iota Proudction in Belguim and Mitos Films in Germany. The project was selected for the Ateliers de l'Atlas at the 2020 Marrakech Film Festival, received support from CNC - Aide aux Cinémas du Monde, the Göteborg Film Festival, and won the pitch award at Cinemed - Mediterranean Film Festival of Montpellier 2021, followed by a writing residency at Moulin d'Andé. in development at Marrakech International Film Festival - Atlas Workshops 2020
